The Faculty Athletics Advisory Committee serves to understand, evaluate, and influence how various aspects of University athletics, including but not limited to intercollegiate teams, recreation, club sports, and athletic budgeting, align with the University’s academic mission.
The Committee acts as the voice of the Faculty Senate in all matters concerning University athletics, offering informed advice to the University’s President and Athletic Director about the educational implications of athletic decisions and policies.
The Committee seeks to ensure that students who participate in any form of University of Delaware athletics can be successful academically.
The Committee meets at least twice each semester and delivers at least one formal report annually to the Faculty Senate detailing its activities, observations, and recommendations.
The Committee shall consist of twelve (12) members, eleven (11) of whom have voting power. The members include the following: seven (7) faculty members, representing at least three colleges, one who shall be the Chair. These members are chosen by the Senate’s COCAN. These members shall serve staggered three-year terms; the University’s Faculty Athletics Representative to the NCAA (ex-officio); one student selected by the Undergraduate Student Government Association; one student selected by the Graduate Student Government; one student-athlete selected by SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee); one designee from UD Athletics, without voting power.
